Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play a crucial role in driving the country’s economic growth. They contribute significantly to production, employment generation, exports, and the overall development of the economy. In states like Odisha, MSME units are among the highest job creators after agriculture.
Nationally, the MSME sector accounts for approximately 40% of India’s total exports and 45% of the total manufacturing output. Recognizing the sector’s vital contribution, a dedicated Department of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises was established to support, promote, and enhance the competitiveness of MSMEs at the state level.
This initiative by the State Government aims to revitalize the MSME sector, give it top priority, and ensure organized and sustainable growth through focused policies and support programs.
The Modi Government is planning to extend MSME registration status to dealers, enabling them to avail of the same benefits currently offered to micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). This significant proposal was announced by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, who oversees the Ministry of MSME and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, during a virtual event held on August 18, focused on “Building Vehicles, Engineering Components, and Aggregates.”
We are considering granting MSME status to dealers as well, so they too can benefit from the various support schemes offered to MSMEs, said Gadkari during the event.
Gadkari also highlighted the government’s focus on developing an integrated transportation system, including rivers, marine transport, railways, roadways, and air transport. He emphasized that improvements in logistics will significantly reduce costs and support factory and manufacturing growth across sectors.
The Minister encouraged businesses to present innovative plans to support the vision of making India a global hub for automotive manufacturing. He assured that the government is committed to providing all necessary resources to make this vision a reality.
The Minister further emphasized that all MSMEs, whether in manufacturing or services, must register to benefit from various government schemes. Registered MSMEs are entitled to:
To achieve the goal of Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India), Gadkari called for a reduction in imports and a boost in local manufacturing, especially in sectors like automotive and construction equipment. He stressed the importance of upgrading research, technology, and innovation, and encouraged joint ventures and foreign collaborations with compatible technology and financing options.
Gadkari also urged large companies to clear pending dues to MSMEs promptly, as delays can disrupt their operations. He shared that the MSME Ministry is working with the Ministry of Finance to explore tax incentives for industries that establish technology centers, training institutes, and research facilities.
We are actively discussing how to provide additional support to encourage industries to invest in innovation and R&D, said Gadkari.
